President Trump escalates his criticism of Rep. Ilhan Omar
President Donald Trump has intensified his criticism of Representative Ilhan Omar following the failure of a GOP-led resolution to censure her in the House of Representatives. The resolution, introduced by Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), sought to reprimand Omar over comments she made after the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The House narrowly voted 214-213 to table the measure, with four Republicans joining Democrats in opposition.

“I think she’s terrible. I think she should be impeached. I think she’s terrible,” the president told reporters aboard Air Force One on Thursday(September 18). “If she got censured, that’s great, if she got impeached, that’s even better,” he added.

Who is Ilhan Omar?

Ilhan Omar is a Democratic Congresswoman representing Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District. Born in Somalia in 1982, she and her family fled the country’s civil war and settled in the United States in the 1990s. Omar became the first Somali-American elected to Congress and one of the first two Muslim women to serve in the US House of Representatives. Known for her progressive views, she has been an outspoken advocate on issues including immigration, social justice, and foreign policy.

He also criticized her background, stating, "These people that come from countries that have nothing, they try to come and tell us how to run OUR country." Trump also questioned the governance of Somalia, Omar's country of origin, highlighting issues such as poverty, corruption, and violence. He added that “70 percent of the population lives in extreme poverty, and widespread food insecurity. Somalia is consistently ranked among the world’s most corrupt countries, including bribery, embezzlement, and a dysfunctional government.”

Trump also repeated long-debunked allegations that Omar married her brother to obtain US citizenship, which she has consistently denied. “All of this, and Ilhan Omar tells us how to run America! P.S. Wasn’t she the one that married her brother in order to gain Citizenship??? What SCUM we have in our Country, telling us what to do, and how to do it,” the president said.
