Trump claims ceasefire between Israel and Iran, ending 12-day war

Israel-Iran ceasefire: Hours after Iranian missiles were fired at US air bases in Qatar and Iraq, President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to announce that Israel and Iran have agreed to a “Complete and Total CEASEFIRE,” meaning an official end to what he called the “12-Day War.”

The ceasefire, brokered through Qatari mediation, is set to roll out in stages beginning six hours from the announcement. Iran will begin the truce, followed by Israel 12 hours later, culminating in a formal cessation of hostilities after 24 hours.

According to Trump, Iran will initiate the ceasefire, followed by Israel 12 hours later, with a formal conclusion to hostilities 24 hours from the initial agreement.

What Trump posted on Israel-Iran ceasefire

“CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World. During each CEASEFIRE, the other side will remain PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL,” he stated.

“On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end, what should be called, “THE 12 DAY WAR.” This is a War that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will! God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD!” he concluded.

Shortly after Trump’s announcement, a senior Iranian official confirmed to Reuters that Tehran has agreed to the US-proposed, Qatar-mediated ceasefire. The official noted that Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani played a key role in brokering the deal through a call with Iranian officials.

According to sources familiar with the negotiations and Trump, Iran provided prior warning to the US before the strike on its air bases in Qatar and Iraq, and no injuries were reported.

The mediation effort reportedly began after Trump contacted Qatar’s Emir, informing him that Israel had agreed to a ceasefire and asking for Doha’s help in bringing Iran on board. Qatar, maintaining close ties with Tehran, facilitated swift communication that led to the agreement.

Trump praised both sides for stepping back from the brink, suggesting the situation could have spiraled into a regional catastrophe.

“This is a War that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will!”

He applauded the leaders of both nations for showing what he described as “Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence” to end the conflict.

A couple of hours before the ceasefire announcement, Trump had posted calling for global peace. “CONGRATULATIONS WORLD, IT’S TIME FOR PEACE!,” the US President wrote.

Earlier, after the attacks on the US base, Trump downplayed Iran’s missile strike, calling it a “very weak response.” He said that no American personnel were harmed and said it reflected Iran’s willingness to de-escalate.

His comments came after a weekend of US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, further fueling fears of a broader war.
