Tru Fru recalls freeze-dried strawberry snacks over possible metal pieces

Snack company Tru Fru is recalling some freeze-dried strawberry products because its manufacturer, Georgia Nut Co., found possible metal pieces in them. Tru Fru makes chocolate-covered fruit snacks, including freeze-dried and frozen fruits like berries, bananas, and pineapple, coated in dark, milk, or white chocolate, and some with peanut butter.

The recall was announced by Tru Fru on Sept. 26 and published by the FDA on Sept. 29. The specific products being recalled are Tru Fru’s Freeze Dried Strawberries in Dark & White Chocolate and Strawberries & Crème, in certain manufacturing lots, as per the report by Yahoo News.

These products are sold across the U.S. at major retailers such as Albertson’s, CVS, Food Lion, H-E-B, Hungryroot, Ingles Markets, Kroger, Stew Leonard’s, and Target. The recall started after a customer reported finding metal pieces in the products to Tru Fru.


Eating even small pieces of metal can be dangerous because it can injure the walls of the esophagus and cause bleeding, as per the report by Verywell Health.

What customers should do

Tru Fru advises anyone who has the affected products to throw them away and not eat them. Customers can possibly get reimbursement for the recalled products by filling out a form provided by Tru Fru.

Tru Fru is not the only company with a recent recall. Earlier, nearly 58 million pounds of Hillshire Brands Co.’s corn dogs and sausage-on-a-stick products were recalled due to wood pieces in the batter, which caused injury to five people. So far, no injuries or illnesses have been reported from the Tru Fru products, as stated by Yahoo News.
