A suspect has been arrested after a shooting took place at the Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital in Michigan’s Oakland County on March 20.

Law enforcement authorities received reports of gunshots at the facility around 7:08 am local time, as per Fox News. One person was injured in the incident. The incident prompted a swift response by authorities to arrest the shooter and stabilize the victim.

What happened at Troy’s Beaumont hospital?

The cause of the shooting is still unknown as per Fox News. The incident occurred between two hospital employees at the parking lot of the location.


The shooter, a male, had fired a handgun five times at a 25-year-old man. The victim was hit two times in the arm. He was later reported to be in stable condition. The suspect was taken into custody based on the victim’s description. His identity has not been released by the police.

Corewell Health Beaumont Hospital on lockdown

Security enforced a hospital lockdown as police investigated the shooting. Federal and Troy Police Department officers, together with local law enforcement agencies, rushed to investigate the location immediately. Federal law enforcement from the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms in Detroit also provided assistance to local police.

The police officers conducted a methodical search throughout the hospital to find the suspect. Local residents received an emergency warning to stay inside their homes and keep away from the hospital.

Hospital personnel received a confidential warning regarding the active shooter event, which directed them to implement their emergency safety procedures. The warning explained to staff and other onsite personnel about what to do in case the shooter appears while also recommending those outside the medical facility to avoid approaching the area until the situation stabilized.

The hospital asked patients with scheduled appointments to refrain from visiting until the authorities sanctioned it as safe to do so.

Police on Troy Beaumont shooting incident

Lt. Ben Hancock of the Troy Police Department called the matter a “targeted incident” during a press conference. No further details were released about either gunman or the victim. The shooter was taken into police custody from a home in Macomb Township.

After the shooting, other Corewell health locations went into lockdown as well. Schools and daycare centers near the location were ordered into a soft lockdown. After the suspect had been apprehended, local police said that operations would return to normal.
