After a hiatus caused by the SAG-AFTRA strike, the highly anticipated film, Tron: Ares, is set to commence filming in Vancouver, BC, immediately after the holidays. Collider reports that the movie, starring Jared Leto in the lead role, is back on track after a three-month preproduction suspension. Joining Leto are Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Cameron Monaghan, carefully selected by director Joachim Rønning.

While details about Leto's character remain undisclosed, speculation surrounds Monaghan, who may portray a "virtual" character in the film's digital realm, drawing on his expertise in motion capture from the Star Wars: Jedi video game series. The return of Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, and Olivia Wilde to their previous roles in the Tron series remains uncertain.

The resumption of production is a positive development, considering Rønning's disclosure in August that over 150 employees had been released from the project. During that time, Rønning not only addressed the reasons behind the strike but also provided insights into the film's plot, which eerily echoes current concerns about AI in the industry:

"The border between reality and the digital world is thinning, exploring the implications of artificial intelligence."

Tron movies, known for their groundbreaking visual effects, follow the journey of characters in a computerized environment. The original Tron showcased computer-generated imagery (CGI) extensively, marking a milestone in film history. Both Tron and its sequel, Tron: Legacy, are available for streaming on Disney+, accompanied by the captivating animated series, Tron: Uprising, set between the two films. As for Tron: Ares, its release date is yet to be announced.
