Tristan Rogers, the Australian-born actor who played Robert Scorpio on General Hospital since 1980, has died at the age of 79. His manager confirmed the news to ABC News on Friday. Condolences poured in for Rogers, with 'General Hospital' executive producer Frank Valentini being among the first to pen eulogies on social media.

Valentine expressed his sympathies for Tristan's family, saying that his character Robert Scorpio and his 50-years-long acting career were a marker of his one-of-a-kind talent. He concluded his post for Rogers by saying “May he rest in peace.” Rogers started off as an actor in Australia in the 1970s. He appeared in soaps like Bellbird, Number 96, and The Box. He was also a regular in a short-lived police drama called The Link Men, as reported by TVLine.

Tristan Rogers career and TV shows

His big break in the U.S. came during the “Love in the Afternoon” era when he joined General Hospital as Port Charles’ answer to James Bond. His first run on General Hospital lasted 12 years. He was paired with several leading ladies, including Demi Moore as Jackie Templeton, Emma Samms as Holly Sutton, and Finola Hughes as Anna Devane.

Between his time on General Hospital, he took other roles. In 1997, he appeared on The Bold and the Beautiful as private investigator Hunter Jones. In the early 2010s, he played Colin Atkinson on The Young and the Restless. He also worked in Sean Kanan’s web soap Studio City, where he won a Best Supporting Actor in a Digital Drama Series Emmy for his role, as stated by TVLine.

Tristan Rogers movies and voice acting

Outside of daytime dramas, Rogers starred in Showtime’s stock-car racing drama Fast Track in 1997. He voiced the kangaroo mouse in Disney’s animated movie The Rescuers Down Under in 1990. In Babylon 5, season 1, Rogers played the role of Home Guard leader Malcolm Biggs, with his General Hospital co- star Nancy Lee Grahn also having a part.
