Two Days after Demartravion ‘Trey’ Reed, a Delta State University student, was found dead, hanging from a tree at the university campus, authorities have claimed to have recovered a video of the incident. Delta State’s Director of Public Safety Mike Peeler said, “There are videos. They are in the hands of the investigative team,” as quoted by WLBT, Channel 3, affiliated with NBC.

This was, however, not the first video related to the death of a 21-year-old Black student that surfaced. Earlier, a video of the hanging death incident emerged on social media, which raised questions about his death, whether it was a suicide or a murder. Initially, authorities had claimed that it was a suicide, but family and online users allege racial violence at the university.

The gruesome case led to the cancellation of centennial events, classes, and increased counseling services. A person claiming to be Reed’s cousin shared allegations about his death. The cousin said the death was due to racial violence and not suicide.

The cousin claimed Trey Reed faced racial violence at Delta State University five years ago. Staff allegedly tried to lock him up for no reason. Reed received nine months probation after that incident.
