Trey Reed 'Family' Allegations

The cousin claimed Trey Reed faced racial violence at Delta State University five years ago. Staff allegedly tried to lock him up for no reason. Reed received nine months probation after that incident.

The cousin said, "My cousin was found hanging from a tree. They are trying to rule it as suicide. Both his arms were broken, and he had a broken leg. The school has a history of being racist."

Delta State University Response

Delta State University canceled all public events, including centennial celebrations. Opening ceremonies were set for 1 p.m., and a time capsule was to open at 3 p.m. Classes were also canceled on Monday.

DSU President Dan Ennis said normal operations and classes will resume soon. Ennis said counseling services will be increased. The chapel will be open, clergy will attend, and security will be visible.

Peer support services are available at H.L. Nowell Student Union. Prayer and meditation are offered at Lena Sillers Chapel. Centennial events have not been rescheduled.

Trey Reed Death Coroner’s Statement

The Bolivar County Coroner’s office released a statement regarding Trey Reed’s death. Officials said Reed committed suicide. The preliminary examination found no injuries consistent with assault. There were no lacerations, contusions, broken bones, or other signs of physical attack.

Reed’s body will be sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for autopsy.

Trey Reed Death Police Investigation

Delta State University Police Chief Michael L. Peeler said Reed committed suicide. The body was found hanging from a tree near the Court of Governors dormitories behind the pickleball courts.
