Travis Kelce to retire after this season? He gives big update amid Taylor Swift wedding
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, Travis Kelce, is approaching the end of his NFL journey. Currently, in the 13th year of his professional life, this season signifies the concluding year on his existing Chiefs contract.

Before the season, Kelce confirmed he would participate “the last one on the contract” before making a decision on retirement.

Day-by-Day Approach

Kelce provided a glimpse into his mindset in a recent interview ahead of Monday Night Football, where he joined Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, and his brother Jason Kelce for a talk. When asked about how much longer he plans to play, Kelce cited:

“I take it day-by-day, year-by-year.”

He mentioned:

“I just love coming into work with these guys right here and that culture has become my way of life. The expectations every single year, year-in year-out is Super Bowl or failure, and the eye in the sky doesn’t lie, baby. You see those first two games and we’re a few plays here and there, and a few decisions here and there away from being an undefeated football team.”

2025 Season Performance

Kelce has had a slow beginning to the 2025 campaign. Through five games, he has accumulated just 243 rushing yards and two touchdowns, highlighting to 826 yards and six touchdowns in a complete season. While the yardage is only marginally better than previous year, six touchdowns would make his highest total since 2022. But, Kelce has not exceeded 1,000 yards in a season from 2022.

With the Chiefs now at 2–3, the team would get advantage from additional production from their veteran tight end.

As Kelce nears 37, questions pop up in regard to his future. Will he continue another season with the Chiefs if provided a fresh contract, or would he choose playing elsewhere? That decision will likely be determined at the end of this year, as Kelce examines his choices.
