Tractor trailer crash closes part of Route 1 in Saugus, Massachusetts

A crash between two tractor trailers has closed down a portion of a section of the U.S. Route 1, North, opposite the old Hilltop restaurant site. It has slowed down the morning traffic.

Reports seem to indicate that there has been some severe damage to the tractor trailer cab.

Different crews were trying to upright the tractor trailer with the support of one of those heavy-duty tow trucks. A few minutes before the clock struck 7 a.m., the crew removed the rear part of the vehicle using a cable. The team had also begun to work on cleaning out any fuel that may have spilt from the crash.


The road leading towards the north side was closed down between Essex Street and the Lynnfield Tunnel. With the route closed, traffic was directed off Main Street.

Massachusetts State Police stated that there were minor injuries to the drivers. Authorities were using alternate routes after the road was shut down at the Main Street exit, resulting in an added time of 10 to 15 minutes for the commuters. So far, there's been no news that anyone else got hurt in the crash.

Shortly before 8 a.m., the road was completely open again for the commuters.

There's still no update on the reason behind this accident.

The crash was one of the multiple collisions on Wednesday morning in Eastern Massachusetts.

On early Wednesday, several firefighters and patients were sent to the hospital in another accident. The accident involved a pick-up truck and an ambulance on Interstate 93 in Wilmington, in the U.S. state of Massachusetts.

The crash occurred on the road leading to the south side of the highway close to Route 125. Wilmington fire officials confirmed that many people sustained injuries and were immediately transferred to the hospital.

U.S. 1 in Massachusetts' construction occurred throughout the 1930s, with the widening of existing roads, construction of new ways, and several other improvements.
