Tour de France 2023 Stage 2: Key highlights

Neilson Powless secured the polka dot jersey for another day, after going first over the top of the third of five climbs of the day.
The breakaway trio of Powless, Boasson Hagen, and Cavagna was eventually caught by the peloton, with 10km to go.
Pogacar claimed bonus seconds at the top of Jaizkibel, while Vingegaard retained the yellow jersey.
Mathieu van der Poel fell off the peloton and will not be in contention for the stage win.

Other notable moments from the stage:

A nasty collision occurred as the riders came around a roundabout, with Maxim Van Gils, Ben O'Connor, and Jonas Vingegaard all involved. All three riders were able to continue.
Jumbo-Visma and Ineos Grenadiers were prominent at the front of the peloton, as they looked to position their riders for a late charge.
The rain came down on the peloton as they approached the final climb, making the conditions treacherous.
Overall, it was a thrilling stage of the Tour de France, with a number of exciting moments. Powless' victory was a surprise, but he rode a strong race and deserved the win. The battle for the yellow jersey remains close, with Pogacar and Vingegaard both in contention. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in the next few stages.
