Severe Weather to Hit South-Central US

Intense thunderstorms and tornadoes affected the south-central US on Tuesday, and more severe weather is forecast for the West. The National Weather Service has notified the public of tornado watches in the south-central US and warned of hazardous conditions in Mississippi and Louisiana. Tornado watches will be in effect till early Wednesday.

The weather service also said that the weather parameters are very favorable for long-tracked and strong tornadoes this afternoon and early this evening, emphasizing northeast Louisiana and central Mississippi. On Tuesday, Tornado sirens were employed in towns in Mississippi and Louisiana, and the residents took shelter. The severe weather outbreak prompted the forecasters’ warnings on Tuesday afternoon that was in effect into the night for the threat of strong twisters that could track long distances. Thunderstorms affected the regions from Georgia to eastern Texas and towards the North to Indiana.

“(We're) getting all the resources and supplies that the city wants and needs," including generators, Stitt said. “Thank the Lord that nobody was hurt” and no deaths have been reported.

The National Weather Service confirmed tornadoes that hit the ground in Mississippi on Tuesday evening. The forecast path included Alabama. The tornadoes that touched the ground caused structural damage. Long-track tornadoes can cause winds of up to 165 mph.
