Top Gun: US Air Force pilot Madison Marsh to compete for Miss America crown

The sky is not the limit for Miss Colorado Madison Marsh who is soaring to new heights. She will make history this weekend as the first active-duty Air Force officer to compete for the Miss America title. Confirming her participation in the beauty pageant, the 22-year-old Arkansas native told SWNS, "It’s an awesome experience to bring both sides of the favorite parts of my life together and hopefully make a difference for others to be able to realize that you don’t have to limit yourself."

Comparing to her life in the armed forces, she said that in the military, it’s an open space to really lead in the way that you want to lead, in and out of uniform. She said further that she felt like pageants, and specifically winning Miss Colorado, was a way to truly exemplify that and to set the tone to help make other people feel more comfortable finding what means most to them.



Madison Marsh will join this weekend 49 other beauty queen hopefuls in competition on the Florida stage on January, 13 and 14, about eight months after she clinched the Miss Colorado crown.

Training for Miss America pageant

Like a true professional soldier, Marsh dutifully joined the branch as a 2nd lieutenant, while also pursuing her Master’s in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School and training for the Miss America pageant. She said, "For me, it’s great because I need to stay physically fit and in the gym for the military, so it already coincides with pageant training." At the same time, she had her eyes set on a pilot’s license years before she ever considered competing in pageants.

She decided to dabble in pageants as an extracurricular activity at the same time. Marsh took home the Miss Colorado crown just three years later.
