Taking place in a post-COVID era, the "Monk" reunion film continues the story of Shalhoub's Adrian Monk, a consulting detective characterized by obsessive-compulsive disorder and an array of phobias. According to the official summary, Monk reenters the scene to unravel a final and deeply personal case centered around his cherished step-daughter Molly, a journalist making arrangements for her upcoming wedding.
“He’s afraid of heights,” says Lieutenant Randy Disher (played by Jason Gray-Stanford) in the trailer . “It’s his second-biggest fear after germs.”
Traylor Howard, who plays Natalie Teeger, clarifies, “Actually, it goes germs, needles, birds, then heights.”
The original ensemble cast, including Howard, Gray-Stanford, Melora Hardin, Hector Elizondo, and Ted Levine, reunite alongside Shalhoub in "Mr. Monk's Last Case," with newcomers Caitlin McGee and James Purefoy joining as Molly Evans and Rick Eden, respectively.
Randy Zisk, an executive producer and director of various episodes in the series, helms the reunion movie, working from a script penned by "Monk" series creator Andy Breckman. Shalhoub serves as an executive producer alongside Breckman, Zisk, and David Hoberman, the executive producer of the original series, with UCP serving as the studio.
Originally airing on the USA Network from 2002 to 2009, "Monk" ran for eight seasons and 125 episodes, garnering a total of eight Emmy Awards, including three wins for Shalhoub for Best Actor in a Comedy Series in 2003, 2005, and 2006.
