How to watch 2023 Tony Awards?
The 76th annual Tony Awards will be available to stream on CBS and Paramount+ on June 11 at 8 pm ET. However, before the main event, an exciting pre-show will be aired, hosted by Julianne Hough and Skylar and Astin, on Pluto TV from 6:30 pm to 8 pm ET.
Writer Guilds of America Strike Effect
The 2023 Tony Awards have faced some challenges due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike. As a result, the ceremony will proceed with an unscripted, televised broadcast.
Lin-Manuel Miranda, who was initially approached to write the opening number before the strike began, later stood in solidarity with the strikers and ceased his involvement. While the WGA confirmed that there would be no picketing at this year's event, they encouraged their members not to attend.
Ariana DeBose, who hosted last year's ceremony, will return as the host for the 2023 Tonys. However, due to the writers' strike, her responsibilities, along with those of the presenters, will be limited. Presenters will not read from a teleprompter but instead rely on cue cards with the list of nominees.
