Opening braces with a spoon has now become a thing after several dental hacks went viral on the social media platform, TikTok. Other than dentists, hygienists, students and other dental experts have reacted to these DIY hack videos and warned users of the dangers it could pose to their teeth.

These short TikTok videos show how to open one's fixed braces simply with a spoon or even a fork. A dentist on TikTok called "The Braces Guy" explained to the users that even if one might be able to open their braces with a spoon, they would still need to visit a qualified dentist to get themselves checked as brace residue might still be stuck on their teeth. Another obvious result would be that the teeth will begin to shift back to their previous positions without the braces and later on a retainer. Thus resulting in a visit to the dentist again to get braces fixed.
