TikTok star Britney Joy & her mom die in car crash on the way to Juneteenth event

The tragic death of a TikTok star and her mother on Juneteenth has left fans shocked. TikToker Britney Joy, 35, and her mother Sherie Smith, 60, died in a car crash while on their way to a Juneteenth celebration at Emancipation Park in Houston, Texas. Their car was reportedly hit by a truck.

Britney Joy hailed from Southern California and was currently living in Houston, Texas. Britney Joy, also known as Britney Murphy, was known for skits on TikTok about getting ready for work in the morning.

Britney also had a website named ThatGirlBritneyJoy and went by the same name on TikTok and Instagram.




Minutes before her death on June 19, Britney Joy had posted a video about the Juneteenth holiday on TikTok. Titled ‘POV: You forgot it’s Juneteenth – No work today!’, the video shows Britney getting out of bed in the morning and leaving the house for work, and immediately returning with a bottle of wine and getting on her couch.


Britney Joy’s last video before her death garnered 3.8 million views and more than 16,000 comments in a day on TikTok. A fan paid tribute, saying, “It’s so crazy how fast a life can change. RIP.”

Fundraiser for funeral

Britney Joy’s sister Tiffany Smith Cofield told ABC13 that she was on her way home when she saw the accident site. She said it looked like her sister’s car and that when she was walking up, everybody around was saying that a mom and daughter had died. "I knew they had left and knew the only mom and daughter would be my mom and sister."

"There will never be a time when I won't miss my mother and my sister,” Tiffany said. “They were my best friends. They were everything.”

Tiffany has started a fundraiser on GoFundMe for her mother and sister’s funeral. She writes on the page: “My mom and sister were tragically taken away from us way too soon in an accident involving a reckless driver in Houston. This was just as my sister, beloved TikToker Britney Joy, began rising up in fame for her 9-5 videos that hit the internet by storm. Everyone related to her stories and those of her characters. Unfortunately, we were not adequately prepared to have to lay both my sister and mother to rest at the same time. This happened so suddenly and was truly something I could have never imagine Losing my best friends." (sic)

More than $63,000 (£49,500) have been raised so far.
