Riley Greene provided a big spark for Detroit, blasting his team-leading 28th home run in the fourth inning after Kerry Carpenter’s double, trimming the Tigers’ deficit to 3-2. Detroit has now won four of its last five and five of its last seven games.
Rafael Montero (1-1) earned the win by recording the final four outs. Starter Tarik Skubal endured a rough third inning - giving up a solo homer to Edouard Julien and run-scoring hits to Ryan Jeffers and Luke Keaschall - but settled in to retire 13 of the final 14 batters he faced. Skubal worked seven innings, allowing three runs and striking out three.
Bailey Ober started strong for Minnesota but faltered in the fourth when Greene’s homer cut the lead. Detroit tied the game in the sixth before the late-inning heroics in extras sealed the comeback.
