Tiger Woods is once again making headlines, this time off the course, after a car crash in Florida led to his arrest on suspicion of DUI. Authorities say the incident raised concerns about impairment, even though initial alcohol tests told a different story.

What happened during the crash?

Tiger Woods was involved in a car crash Friday afternoon in Martin County, Florida, after his vehicle struck another car and rolled over. The incident happened shortly after 2 p.m., not far from his residence on Jupiter Island, as per several reports by The AP, Sky News, and ABC7.

According to Sheriff John Budensiek, Woods appeared “visually impaired” at the scene. Despite the severity of the crash, authorities confirmed that neither Woods nor the other driver suffered any injuries, and no additional passengers were involved.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed that Woods was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence following the incident, as per several reports by The AP, Sky News, and ABC7.

Why was Tiger Woods charged despite a zero reading?

During the investigation, Woods underwent a breathalyzer test and “blew triple zeros,” indicating no alcohol in his system. However, the situation took a turn when deputies requested a urinalysis test.

“Mr. Woods did a breathalyzer test, blew triple zeros, but when it came time for us to ask for a urinalysis test, he refused and so he’s been charged with DUI, with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test,” Sheriff Budensiek said, as quoted in a report by Fox News.

Authorities said Woods showed “signs of impairment,” which led to the charges despite the clean breathalyzer result. The refusal to take further testing played a key role in the legal action taken against him.

How does this compare to his past incidents?

This is not the first time Woods has faced trouble behind the wheel. In 2017, he was arrested on a DUI charge after being found asleep in his car. At the time, he later said he had taken a mix of prescription medications and eventually pleaded guilty to reckless driving, as per a report by ABC7.

Tiger Woods was also involved in a serious crash in February 2021 in Los Angeles, where his SUV veered off the road at high speed, causing severe leg injuries that required extensive medical treatment.

Since that accident, Woods has struggled with injuries and recovery, including a ruptured Achilles tendon in 2025 and a seventh back surgery later that year. Despite those setbacks, he has remained active in golf, playing limited events and contributing to the sport in leadership roles.

The latest incident adds another chapter to a complex period in Woods’ life, as questions again surface about his health, recovery, and future both on and off the course.
