GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen, a vocal pro-Donald Trump CEO, had been one of the US president's defenders, particularly in the run-up to the 2024 elections. But as Trump's trade war escalates and the tariffs start taking a real toll on the economy, Cohen is publicly reversing course, according to BuzzFeed.

Ryan Cohen’s Support for Trump in 2024

All along in 2024, Cohen was a strong Trump supporter, frequently going onto social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his support. He wrote posts such as "Trump 2024" and "Trump Is The Shit" throughout last year. His posts got views over 1 million. On November 8, 2024, Cohen even celebrated Trump's win by posting on X, "Trump has now won 3 elections in a row", the post that had over 824K views.

But now, Cohen's attitude has changed as tariffs initiated by the Trump government are already beginning to badly hit companies across the board, including technology businesses, Cohen's previous euphoria is turning sour.

GameStop's Nintendo became one of the first to be impacted by these tariffs as it put the pre-bookings of its highly sought Nintendo Switch 2 on hold over fears about tariff impact, as per its post on X.

Cohen’s Frustration Grows

The next day, reports emerged that Apple's iPhone prices could go up by 43% due to Trump's tariffs and so he posted that, "I can’t wait for my $10,000 made in the USA IPhone." The sarcastic remark went viral, with more than 2.3 million views.
