This Australian player makes impressive comeback, bags British Open to create history
Cameron Smith is back with a bang. His performance has helped him to enter his first major. He completely stole the show at the game.

McIlroy was all set to end his 8-year drought at the home of golf but Cameron Smith outshined everyone by running off five straight birdies to start the back nine. Smith's 8-under 64 was the lowest final round by any winner in the 30 times golf's oldest champion at St. Andrews. He won against Cameron Young by a margin of one shot.
Young holed a 15-foot eagle putt on the final hole, which was not enough. Neither could McIlroy muster something like that, and he could not make a putt early, nor was he able to hit it close enough later.
The final attempt was a 15-foot birdie on the scary Road Hole at No. 17, which he closely missed to the left. Cameron Smith saved par on 17th with a 10-foot putt and was at the front of the 18th green with his tee shot.
From 80 feet away, Smith paced up the slope and towards the cup was almost perfect, which left him with a tap-in birdie to close at 20-under 268. Thus, he ended up matching the major championship record at par.
Before him, Dustin Johnson was the last person to reach this record in the 2020 Masters that took place in November. McIlroy needed an eagle to tie him as his putt through the Valley of Sin stood no chance. But, he ended up missing the birdie and wound up with a 70 to finish third. Cameron Smith is now the first Australian to win at St. Andrews after Kel Nagle in 1960.
