Thinner than a credit card: Samsung’s S25 Edge raises the stakes before Apple’s 'iPhone Air' can take flight
Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge, now available for preorder, is the brand’s thinnest and lightest flagship yet debuting just months before Apple’s rumored ultra-slim iPhone Air. With a 5.8mm frame, powerful AI tools, and a 200MP camera, it challenges Ap...

Samsung goes ultra-slim and ultra-aggressive
Samsung's Galaxy S25 Edge is already turning heads in the tech world not for wild gimmicks or foldable tricks, but for its sheer thinness. At just 5.8 millimeters thick, it's sleeker than anything Apple currently offers and even thinner than the upcoming iPhone Air, which is expected to launch this fall at approximately 6.2 millimeters.Despite its slim frame, the S25 Edge doesn’t skimp on features. It packs a 6.7-inch AMOLED 2X display, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, 12GB of RAM, and either 256GB or 512GB of storage. The phone weighs just 5.7 ounces, making it one of the lightest premium phones available today.
Samsung is betting big on AI-powered features this year, including its Galaxy AI suite, real-time suggestions through Now Bar and Now Brief, and integrated Google Gemini AI, which can offer live insights through your camera or screen.
Can Apple’s iPhone Air catch up?
The upcoming iPhone Air, according to leaks from Mark Gurman and other trusted insiders, will focus on shaving 2mm off the iPhone’s thickness, potentially launching as Apple’s thinnest phone ever. But even if it hits that mark, it will still be 0.4mm thicker than the S25 Edge.Apple is expected to bring its A18 Pro chip, upgraded AI tools through iOS 18, and modest camera upgrades. Still, early specs point to a 48MP main camera, likely far behind Samsung’s 200MP sensor that uses AI-enhanced zoom to simulate a dedicated telephoto lens.
In real-world terms, the S25 Edge may not just be thinner, it might also feel faster, lighter, and more futuristic, thanks to its streamlined Android 15 interface and seamless AI integrations.
