These lifelong Republicans are dumping Trump; here's what they are saying about him
Many lifelong Republicans are rejecting Donald Trump, citing concerns about his leadership, policies, and extremism. Republican Voters Against Trump is using these voices to persuade other conservatives to vote for Democrats such as Kamala Harris.

Before Donald Trump took office, Philadelphia-based attorney Robert Nix, 62, had always been a Republican. From the time he became an adult, he has consistently supported the Republican Party in elections, and his vote for the GOP nominee in 2016 was no exception. But Nix realized very quickly that he had erred. Trump's raucous remarks and assaults on press freedom disturbed him. When the next election came around in 2020, Nix cast his disagreements with President Joe Biden's policies aside and cast his first-ever Democratic ballot. Nix stated that he wasn't happy about it, but he didn't see any other option in a Salon interview. He's urging others to follow suit this year. Hundreds of Republicans, including Nix, are sharing their stories in the hopes that they will strike a chord with centrist voters in swing states like Pennsylvania. His involvement with Republican Voters Against Trump (RVAT) is a result of the $3.5 million ad campaign launched by the conservative advocacy group Defending Democracy Together, which is dedicated to defending America’s democratic norms, values, and institutions. The same organization started a related project in 2020 under the name Republican Accountability to inspire conservative voters to vote blue by showcasing their reasons for not supporting Trump.

This year's campaign has the same objective: to use personal stories to reach centre-right voters in battleground states who are concerned about Trump but hesitant to vote Democratic for the first time. The campaign is a community of these voters who feel politically homeless, who need a new home, and who want to reject Donald Trump but don't necessarily identify as Democrats, as stated by John Conway, RVAT's director of strategy in an interview with Salon. RVAT’s website has over 300 recorded testimonies from former Trump voters who are voting Democrat this time around.
Voters urge other conservatives to support Vice President Kamala Harris by sharing the risks of another Trump term. In Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, there are advertisements for streaming services and billboards featuring numerous testimonies, including Nix's.
