'The Walking Dead' series Finale review; here's everything you need to know

It's challenging to discuss "The Walking Dead" without mentioning death. It earned a reputation for being a show where any person could be killed off, and during its early seasons, it replaced around a third of the cast each season.

The last time death moved the plot was a long time ago. Despite several spinoffs in the works, the show struggled throughout its previous season to maintain the tension of the series' golden days when it seemed like anyone could die at any time.





Every time Negan, Maggie, and Daryl are reportedly in danger of losing their life, the dramatic anticipation of whether or not they will survive is broken. A heavy cast stayed the series' final two seasons reasonably uninjured, despite the absence of its three most prominent characters. The play was still bloody but lacked the real sacrifice and sadness that bloodshed usually brings.

With a frequency that brought to mind old jokes about red-shirted ensigns on "Star Trek," new characters were introduced and fleshed out just enough to serve as sacrificial lambs throughout "The Walking Dead" final season, but the show gave its viewers no time to consider the mortality of these characters. Nothing more was gained from their deaths than the plot's advancement.

It was inevitable that the titular zombie hordes would need to be faced with one last epic fight at the series finale. Because of this, "The Walking Dead" always performed best when it embraced its comic-book roots, and to its credit, the episode offers plenty of comics-worthy action, vivid, that includes a few significant explosions and enough images.

Of course, the plot was not only driven by fatalities, and to its credit, the climax gave the primary cast members who were still alive a little bit more respect. Several particular character moments delved deeply into the show's mythology and expertly rhymed with sequences from past seasons. Like Maggie, Negan has changed from the most heinous antagonist in the series to one who can now express genuine remorse for his actions. Maggie's sympathetic response to his apology felt accurate to both characters' development.
