The United States of America exits WHO again, orders Donald Trump. Ahead of the decision, health experts warn of danger

For the second time, US President Donald has announced opting out from the World Health Organisation. The White House issued a statement on Monday announcing this decision.

The order comes ahead of Trump’s promise to steer America away from global institutions. However, according to leading health experts, the decision comes with a worry of isolating America from the rest of the world with facing consequences in terms of disease response, diplomatic relations and the pandemic.

According to reports, America has been one of the most funding countries to fund the World Health Organisation which has its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The agency, part of the United Nations, prepares for health emergencies and provides aid to countries in need. The USA has greatly influenced WHO ever since its inception after World War II.

Trump had been showing his willingness to quit the agency in the year 2020. He alleged that WHO was slow in handling the COVID-19 pandemic and was unable to handle the crisis efficiently.

The order clearly stated "Due to the organization’s mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic that arose out of Wuhan, China, and other global health crises, its failure to adopt urgently needed reforms, and its inability to demonstrate independence from the inappropriate political influence of WHO member states."

Nearly one-fifth of WHO’s funding comes from the USA. Joe Biden also made sure that the USA funded WHO during his rule.

The agency has expressed that it will do everything in its capacity to cooperate with the Trump government. Exiting the World Health Organisation will make the United States the only super power to exit the 194-member body.

Though there is no set procedure to exit the World Health Organisation, the USA can withdraw by informing a year earlier.
