The Super Mario Bros Movie has achieved another remarkable milestone by claiming the title of the second highest-grossing animated film in history.

The computer-animated adventure, featuring Chris Pratt as the beloved plumber Mario and Charlie Day as Luigi, has reached a staggering $1.3 billion at the global box office, surpassing the earnings of the first Frozen movie. Frozen, which previously held the third position on the list, garnered $1.28 billion.

However, it is unlikely that Mario and Luigi will surpass the success of the Frozen sisters in the sequel to the 2013 Disney hit. Frozen II currently holds the top spot as the highest-grossing animated film of all time, amassing an impressive $1.45 billion.

Although another 2019 Disney film, The Lion King, grossed even more at $1.65 billion, it is considered a live-action remake by the studio and does not qualify for the animated movie ranking. Mario, the iconic video game hero, was expected to give tough competition to Anna and Elsa, following its initial box office success.

During its first five-day run worldwide, the Super Mario Bros Movie raked in $377 million, including an astounding $204.6 million from the US alone. The popularity and enduring appeal of the Super Mario franchise, coupled with the star-studded voice cast, have propelled the movie to remarkable financial success.
