Netflix has set the release date for Tyler Perry’s WWII drama, “The Six Triple Eight.” The film, starring Kerry Washington, will hit select theaters on December 6, before streaming on Netflix on December 20.

Netflix announced that “The Six Triple Eight,” Tyler Perry’s latest film, will premiere in select theaters on December 6. It will then be available for streaming on December 20. The movie stars Emmy winner Kerry Washington and is based on real events during World War II. Netflix also released a teaser and several first-look photos to give audiences a preview of what to expect.



Plot

“The Six Triple Eight” is based on the article “Fighting A Two-Front War” by Kevin M. Hymel, which was published in WWII History Magazine. The story follows the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to serve overseas during World War II. The film highlights the unit’s struggles with racism, sexism and harsh working conditions while they were committed to serving their country. Despite these challenges, they remained determined to fulfill their mission, breaking barriers and delivering hope.

Cast

Kerry Washington plays the role of Major Charity Adams, the commanding officer of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion. The ensemble cast also includes Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, Sarah Jeffery, Pepi Sonuga, Moriah Brown, Jeanté Godlock, Susan Sarandon, Dean Norris, Sam Waterston and Oprah Winfrey.

Production Team

Tyler Perry directed the film, wrote the script, and served as a producer. Other producers include Nicole Avant, Angi Bones, Tony L. Strickland, Keri Selig and Carlota Espinosa. Peter Guber and Kerry Washington served as executive producers. The film features an original song titled “The Journey,” written by Diane Warren, a 15-time Oscar-nominated songwriter, and performed by Oscar winner H.E.R.
