Amazon Prime Video show The Lord of the Rings has announced seven new recurring cast members for Season 2. According to media reports, Sam Hazeldine has replaced Joseph Mawle for the role of Orc leader Adar.

Newcomers to the popular series include Gabriel Akuwudike, Ben Daniels, Yasen Atour, Nia Towle, and Nicholas Woodeson. Season 2 will also feature debutant Amelia Kenworthy. Vernon Sanders, Amazon Studios’ Head of Global Television, claimed that the first season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was the top Prime Video original series and was viewed by more than 100 million people around the world.

Sanders credited the show's global success to its universal nature and powerful storytelling. The Rings of Power is based on JRR Tolkien’s Second Age of Middle-earth. The story is set thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings series. The first season of the show, aired between September 1 and October 14, 2022, contained eight episodes, all of which are currently available on Prime Video.

Following its release, over 25 million viewers watched the first episode on the very first day. Given the anticipation, the second season is expected to receive an even bigger opening when released. The release date, however, hasn’t been revealed, but it should come somewhere in 2024.
