After the horror film 'The Strangers: Chapter 1' hit the theaters on May 17, 2024, it proved to be a boring film. It could manage only a measly 21% rating on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. It was also dubbed as ‘a redundant exercise’, ‘generic’ and ‘more unpleasant and depressing than engagingly scary’. In 'The Strangers: Chapter 1', a young couple was forced to spend a night in a remote Airbnb after their car broke down. The duo, played by Riverdale’s Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez from Teen Wolf were terrorized by three masked strangers who strike with no mercy and seemingly no motive.

In its review, the Deadline wrote that ‘The Strangers: Chapter 1' is everything wrong with the horror genre.’ Similarly, IndieWire wrote that when it comes to messing with genre classics, the answer to “Why remake a near-perfect film?” can’t be “It was here”.’

But 'The Strangers: Chapter 1' was not that bad commercially. The horror flick collected $ 37.5 million at the global box office. Considering its small budget of $8.5 million, the horror film's box office earnings are already 4.5 times bigger.

It has surpassed 'Dune: Part Two' in terms of profitability. The Zendaya and Timothee Chalamet-starring movie has earned in $711 million worldwide since its release in March but on an estimated budget of $190 million. 'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire', has collected $567 million at the box office, but it had a budget of between $135 million to $150 million.
