The original series concluded with a jaw-dropping moment when Robert Durst was inadvertently caught on a hot microphone uttering the chilling words, "Killed them all, of course." This confession came after the filmmakers unearthed compelling evidence linking him to the crimes.
Following this shocking revelation, Durst was arrested in a hotel lobby in New Orleans. The team behind "The Jinx" hasn't rested on their laurels; they've continued their tireless investigation, leading to the discovery of more hidden materials, including recorded prison calls made by Durst and new interviews.
Robert Durst, the son of wealthy New York real estate magnate Seymour Durst, was convicted of first-degree murder in the case of journalist and screenwriter Susan Berman, a crime that took place in 2000. He received a life sentence for this conviction. Moreover, the Westchester County, N.Y. District Attorney's office has been exploring the possibility of bringing charges against Durst related to the 1982 disappearance of his first wife, Kathleen McCormack Durst.
Sadly, Durst passed away while serving time as a prisoner at San Joaquin General Hospital in January 2022. He had contracted COVID-19 in the fall of 2020.
"The Jinx" achieved significant recognition and acclaim, receiving six Emmy award nominations and securing two wins, one for outstanding documentary or nonfiction series and another for outstanding picture editing for nonfiction programming.
This upcoming installment, "The Jinx – Part Two," is being presented by HBO Documentary Films and produced by Hit the Ground Running. Andrew Jarecki leads the project as director and executive producer, with Zac Stuart-Pontier and Kyle Martin serving as executive producers.
