London has been chosen to host the first-ever stage adaptation of "The Hunger Games," a play based on Suzan Collins' books and the blockbuster film series led by Jennifer Lawrence. Directed by Matthew Dunster ("Hangmen") and adapted by playwright Conor McPherson ("Girl From the North Country"), the live theatrical production will debut in London in the fall of 2024.

The play is based on the first book in Collins' dystopian series, focusing on a televised battle royale where young tributes are chosen by lottery to fight to the death. The story revolves around Katniss Everdeen, portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence, who volunteers to take her younger sister's place in the 74th annual Hunger Games.

Author Suzan Collins expressed her excitement about collaborating with Conor McPherson and Matthew Dunster on the London stage adaptation of "The Hunger Games."

Playwright Conor McPherson, known for works like "The Weir," "The Seafarer," and "Shining City," expressed humility and inspiration in receiving Collins' approval to adapt "The Hunger Games" for the stage.

"The Hunger Games" production is the result of the efforts of Tristan Baker and Charlie Parsons from Runaway Entertainment, Oliver Royds from BOS Productions, and Isobel David in collaboration with Lionsgate.

The original "Hunger Games" novel was published in 2008, leading to two sequels and four feature films. These films collectively grossed $3 billion worldwide at the box office. Lionsgate has also developed a prequel, "The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes," featuring Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler, set to premiere in theaters on November 17.
