‘The Guardians of The Galaxy Holiday Special’ shows all Marvel characters in Christmas spirit

Christmas is here, so we'll be unwrapping the seasonal cinematic treats left underneath the tree for 2022. Interestingly, Marvel is back with the newest instalment of, check your notes, Part four of the MCU.

This allows fanatics to break out their family Christmas trees and record hours-long YouTube videos about their favourite characters while forcing the rest of us to pretend to be interested in a wacky written-by-committee universe that appears to be crumbling apart in front of our eyes. It's safe to assume that Marvel plans that, as always, they're making everything up as they move along.

James Gunn's little comeback contains the actors from Guardians of the Galaxy, who appear to have never left our screens in numerous series but are now appearing in the setting of a strange Christmas television special.


The inspiration, if you can call it that, is the infamous Star Wars Christmas Special from 1978, a cheesy cash-in that George Lucas later disavowed. So consider that the GoG Holiday Special is designed to be humorous, even if its objective appears to be nothing more than bait-and-switch the audience and fill 39 minutes with off-brand stuff you do not desire.

What is the GoG Holiday Special in a nutshell?

Because Peter Quill is depressed for some reason, his less wealthy fellow Guardians Drax and Mantis travel to Earth to capture actor Kevin Bacon to cheer him up and learn the true meaning of Christmas. That's all there is to the story. The end.
