“The Godfather” famed Hollywood actor, James Caan, passes away at 82

In a saddening event, the renowned veteran actor from Hollywood, James Caan, breathed his last. The actor, who has starred in popular Hollywood flicks like ‘The Godfather’, ‘Misery’ and ‘Elf’, died at the age of 82 on July 6th, as confirmed by his family members. However, the actual cause of death remains undisclosed.

In an official statement released on his official Twitter handle, his family confirmed the death, the statement made by his family states that the family members appreciate the affection towards the actor and accept all heartfelt condolences. The family members also requested to respect their privacy in these tough times.

Born in 1940 to Jewish immigrants in the Bronx borough of New York, James Caan studied acting at Hofstra University and played football in his early days at Michigan State. Caan came to Los Angeles to pursue his career in acting in the early 1960s when one of his ex-classmates from Hofstra University offered him a role of a drifter in the 1969 movie ‘The Rain People’.


James Caan started getting noticed as an artist in the 1971 TV movie ‘Brian’s Song’, in which he played the role of Brian Piccolo. In this movie, he portrayed the tear-jerking role of a cancer patient, which was widely praised by critics. However, the real shot of fame in his armour came with his portrayal of hotheaded Sonny Corleone in the 1972 cult movie ‘The Godfather’. For his role as the oldest son of mobster Vito Corleone, James Caan earned a lot of praises and even an Oscar nomination.

James Caan’s illustrious career spanned for decades, with some challenging roles in his filmography, including tough-guy characters in movies like ‘Rollerball’ and ‘Thief’. He also showcased versatility in his talent with challenging roles in movies like ‘Misery’. Caan is also known for his role in ‘Elf’ released in 2003, in which he played Will Ferrell’s father. He also appeared in the TV dramas like 'Las Vegas’ and ‘Hawaii Five-0’.
