This is what exactly the counter-sniper from the US Secret Service faced when he eliminated Thomas Crooks who tried to assassinate Donald Trump at Butler in Pennsylvania. The Secret Service counter-sniper killed him with a single shot which has been described as a ‘one in a million shot’ by Fox News.
One in a million shot:
A local tactical team had tried to eliminate Crooks but had failed. This is when the counter-sniper from the US Secret Service stepped in. The view of Crooks was unclear as the roof of the building blocked the view of the assassin. The Secret Service agent could only see the scope of the assassin’s sniper rifle and the top of his eye and forehead. While many would find it difficult to aim at the assassin under such circumstances, the Secret Service agent took aim and fired. It is only with practice and expertise of the personnel that could have led to the bullet finding its mark and this is being termed as a ‘one in a million shot’.
US Secret Service Director under fire:
Kimberly Cheatle has been severely criticized for the lapse in security involving the former president. There have been many security lapses that are being pointed out. Firstly, the roof top where the assassin was stationed was not secured by the Secret Service despite many people pointing it out. The Director’s bizarre claim that it was a sloping roof which prevented the team from securing it has only led to more questions regarding the competency of the Secret Service and the training imparted to its agents.
Another lapse that was noticed was that the car of the assassin had explosive devices and the security team did not scan the area before Trump’s arrival. This is a standard operating procedure for all the security agencies in different parts of the world.
