The official trailer was released on November 22, 2024, on the show's YouTube channel. The season picks up after Sol Regem’s fiery assault on Katolis. The main characters—Callum, Ezran, and Soren—face significant losses, including their home.

Aaravos emerges as a central threat, aiming to bring "eternal night" to Xadia through spirits of the dead. He is joined by Claudia, who grows stronger in dark magic. Both Callum and Claudia confront inner struggles, with the battle demanding dark magic despite its risks.

Returning characters include Zubeia, the Archdragon of the Sky, and Queen of the Dragons, who is fully healed. Newlyweds Amaya and Janai also join the fight.

The creators of The Dragon Prince, Aaron Ehasz and Justin Richmond, announced in 2020 that Netflix had renewed the show for four additional seasons, labeled “The Mystery of Aaravos.” This arc spans Seasons 4-7. While many assume Season 7 concludes the series, the creators revealed at San Diego Comic-Con that they plan a potential third arc covering Seasons 8-10. Netflix has not yet confirmed further seasons.
