Sky is hoping for that energy when the six-part limited series, adapted from Nick Cave’s 2009 novel, launches on November 20. Smith, popularly known from Doctor Who and The Crown, plays Bunny Munro, a womanizing salesman whose existence spirals following his wife, Libby, dies by suicide. Left with his nine-year-old son, Bunny Junior, he traverses on a turbulent journey across southern England where both father and son confront grief in very several ways.
The junior role, played by newcomer Rafael Mathé, starts talking to the ghost of his mother while eventually realizing his father is intensely flawed. Bunny, meanwhile, continues chasing women and clinging to bravado, until he realizes he must change to prevent his son from inheriting the same broken trajectory.
“Dad, can you teach me how to be a salesman like you?” Junior asks in the trailer. “You’ve got to sell them the dream,” Bunny says, before clarifying with a grin, “me.”
“You’ve got to sell them the dream,” Matt Smith cites in the recently released trailer for The Death of Bunny Munro.
