A professional message on LinkedIn reportedly quickly spiraled into a high-profile legal dispute involving Milwaukee Bucks owner Wesley Edens and entrepreneur Changli “Sophia” Luo. According to court documents cited by The Wall Street Journal, the pair first connected online in 2022 before eventually meeting in person the following year.

Prosecutors allege the relationship later turned contentious after intimate encounters and financial demands entered the picture. The case has now drawn major attention due to the staggering sums allegedly discussed and the dramatic claims laid out in federal filings.

How did the relationship begin?


According to federal prosecutors, Changli “Sophia” Luo initially approached Wesley Edens through LinkedIn messages that appeared professional in nature. The communication reportedly centered around networking and philanthropy before becoming increasingly personal over time.

Edens, the billionaire financier and majority owner of the Milwaukee Bucks and Aston Villa soccer club, allegedly spoke with Luo about his experiences owning sports franchises.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Luo, founder of the nonprofit One World Initiative Advocacy, eventually met Edens face-to-face in 2023.

Federal prosecutors claim the relationship became romantic shortly afterward. Court filings state that during their third meeting, the pair got intimate at Luo’s Manhattan apartment in June 2023. However, prosecutors allege the situation changed dramatically after that encounter, as per a report by the New York Post.

What happened after their meeting in Manhattan?


According to court documents, Luo allegedly threatened to release intimate photos and videos of Edens unless he agreed to financial demands. The filings claim Edens initially agreed to pay $6.5 million, including $1 million upfront, as part of a settlement arrangement connected to the alleged threats.

The case later escalated again after Luo reportedly learned she had HPV, which her lawyer claimed she blamed on Edens.
