'The Batman 2', 'Superman' Reboot to release in 2025. Check release dates and what DCU has for fans

The DCU era is here! What comes as next attempt by Warner Bros. Discover will lead to a MCU-like creation of movies, or in general terms – DC Comics cinematic universe. It will mark its beginning from The Batman’s sequel and a reboot of Superman. The Batman Part II and upcoming Superman movie – Superman: Legacy will make debut at theatres on October 3, 2025 and July 11, 2025, respectively.

James Gunn and Peter Safran revealed the release dates for two films during a presentation for TheWrap and select reporters. The reboot of Man of Steel, written by Gunn, will not feature an origin story and aims to reintroduce Clark Kent/Superman to movie audiences. Matt Reeves' sequel to "The Batman," with Robert Pattinson as the lead, will see Reeves both writing and directing.

The first DCU projects to be released will be an animated "Creature Commandos" and an HBO Max series starring Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, both serving as a prelude to Gunn and Safran's larger DCU plans. Safran discussed the next Superman movie, the third reboot since 2006's "Superman Returns" and 2013's "Man of Steel," saying it focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian and human heritage. He noted that Superman will struggle with being kind in a world that views it as outdated.


The sequel to "The Batman" will exist outside of the interconnected DC Studios continuity. Gunn stated that darker, more mature spin-off stories like Todd Phillips' 'Joker'.


Gunn and Safran announced that a future movie will introduce a new live-action Batman and Damian Wayne, who becomes Robin and is Wayne's son. This new Batman will not be portrayed by Ben Affleck.

Warner Bros. Discovery is trying to reinvigorate its DC franchise as Marvel's "The Multiverse Saga" enters a new phase. The positive aspect is that Gunn, known for expanding the MCU with "Guardians of the Galaxy," and Safran, who helped develop "The Conjuring Universe" into a successful post-MCU franchise, have a proven track record of success.
