How did the heist go down?

On July 8, 2022, suspect Padilla went to an international jewelry show in San Mateo to scout, Federal indictment. Two days later, he and the group tracked a Brinks truck carrying 73 bags of jewelry from San Mateo to rest stops in Buttonwillow and Lebec, according to the reports.

On July 11, the group stole 24 bags of jewels from the truck, Indictment. It’s not clear how they opened the truck, and Brinks didn’t comment, as per the NBC News report. They took the stolen jewelry to East Hollywood, authorities. Most of them turned off their phones to plan the heist soon after, as mentioned by NBC News.

Victims said the stolen goods were worth $100 million . Some jewelry was recovered during searches on Monday, but the full value isn’t known, and most of it is still missing. Before stealing the jewelry, some of the men took Samsung electronics worth hundreds of thousands of dollars and Apple AirTags worth about $60,000, the prosecutor said, as per reports.
