Texas sues Johnson & Johnson and Kenvue over Tylenol’s possible link to autism
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against Kenvue and Johnson & Johnson, saying that the use of Tylenol can increase the risk of autism in children. Paxton claims that the companies lied to pregnant women by marketing Tylenol as safe, even though they knew it could be harmful.

The lawsuit says that Johnson & Johnson and Kenvue knew for decades that acetaminophen (Tylenol’s main ingredient) could be dangerous for unborn and young children, as stated by CBS News.

Paxton’s lawsuit accuses them of hiding these dangers and tricking pregnant women by calling Tylenol “the only safe painkiller” during pregnancy. He also referred to the Trump administration’s recent claims, saying that the federal government confirmed what the companies already knew — that acetaminophen may cause autism and ADHD when used during pregnancy.

Tylenol autism lawsuit and company response

Paxton further accused Johnson & Johnson of transferring its Tylenol liabilities to Kenvue to protect its assets from lawsuits related to Tylenol’s alleged harm. Kenvue strongly denied all claims, saying that Texas’ lawsuit “lacks legal merit and scientific support.”

Kenvue said that acetaminophen is still the safest pain reliever for pregnant women when used properly. The company also warned that not using acetaminophen could put pregnant women at risk, since untreated fever and pain can harm both the mother and baby.

Kenvue said, “Without it, women face dangerous choices: suffer through fever or use riskier medicines.” It added that high fevers and pain are already known to be dangerous during pregnancy.

Trump administration’s FDA warning on Tylenol

A Johnson & Johnson spokesperson told CBS News that the company no longer owns Tylenol, saying, “Johnson & Johnson divested its consumer health business years ago... all rights and liabilities are owned by Kenvue.”

Earlier in September, President Donald Trump, along with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., announced that the FDA will warn doctors about the possible autism risk linked to acetaminophen use in pregnancy.

Kennedy said the FDA’s decision was based on several studies, including one in the journal Environmental Health, that suggest a possible connection between acetaminophen use in pregnancy and developmental problems in children. Kennedy also said that NIH researchers are still testing multiple theories about this link.

After the Trump administration’s warning, many medical experts disagreed and said there is no solid scientific proof that Tylenol causes autism or ADHD. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) said, “There is no clear evidence that proves a direct relationship between prudent use of acetaminophen during pregnancy and developmental issues.”

Meanwhile, in market updates, Market Catalysts host Julie Hyman reported that Texas’ lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) and Kenvue (KVUE) has become one of the day’s top trending stock stories. The show also covered D.R. Horton (DHI) exceeded home order estimates and Trump Media & Technology Group (DJT) adding prediction market features on Truth Social.
