Two contracts were approved by Texas Facilities Commission. One for $167 million to construct nearly 6.7 miles of the wall near Del Rio by the New Mexico-based Southwest Valley Constructors Co. and another for $140 million for the construction of 6.95 miles of wall in the Rio Grande Valley by the Montana-based BFBC of Texas.
The state has completed or is in the process of concluding deals to acquire about 2.5 miles of land for the Del Rio project, according to John Raff, the commission's deputy executive director.
Raff stated that the BFBC of Texas would start in the Rio Grande Valley with 2.73 kilometers.
