Texas coach Chris Beard booked for assault charges. Know what happened

Texas men's basketball coach Chris Beard was charged with felony domestic violence assault charges this Monday. 49-year-old Beard is currently being lodged at the Travis County Jail, according to Senior Public Information Officer of the Travis County Sheriff's Office Kristen Dark.

Dark told media that Beard is in their custody and is now being booked.

Beard has been charged with third-degree assault of a family or household member, strangulation, or impeding breath circulation. He was arrested at 4:18 AM on Monday in Austin, Texas.


The Austin Police Department shared that they received a hotshot call shortly after midnight on Monday. A hotshot call is an incident that is ongoing and poses immediate harm to life or public safety. It's the protocol to immediately dispatch officers when a hotshot call is received. On receiving this particular call, officers were dispatched to Vista Lane, 1900 Block.



Perry Minton, who is Beard's attorney, claimed that Beard is innocent of all the charges. According to him, Beard shouldn't have been arrested in the first place. He wants him released immediately and cleared of all charges.

Texas University was contacted in the case. They told the media that they were aware of the arrest and were in the process of gathering facts and legal information. They are closely monitoring all legal processes taking place in the case.
