Tesla Pi phone: is Elon Musk’s rumored smartphone actually real?
Tesla Pi phone has been the subject of many online rumors. Fans claim it could connect directly to Starlink satellites, charge via solar power, and even mine cryptocurrency. Some videos and posts suggest it will have Neuralink integration too. But...

But as of September 2025, there is no official confirmation from Tesla. Elon Musk himself has said the company is not making a phone, unless future circumstances force them to.
Musk has been asked about smartphones several times. His answer has been consistent: Tesla would only consider building a phone if Apple or Google restricted Tesla’s apps or services. Right now, Tesla cars and energy products already work with iOS and Android, so there is no need for a separate Tesla device.
This makes the so-called Tesla Pi phone more of a fan theory than a real product.
The rumors gained traction around 2021 and 2022, when concept images of a “Tesla Model Pi” appeared online. These designs quickly went viral because they matched Tesla’s futuristic image.
Some of the rumored features included:
- Direct Starlink connectivity for signal anywhere in the world
- Solar charging panels built into the device
- Neuralink control through brain-computer interface
- MarsCoin mining, linked to Musk’s Mars colonization vision
Are there Tesla phones being sold today?
Yes, but they are not from Musk’s Tesla. Several rugged Android smartphones branded as Tesla phones are available in markets like Europe and Asia. For example, the Tesla EXPLR 9 is sold online with a 6.3-inch display, 5000mAh battery, and water-resistant design. These phones are produced by another company using the Tesla name under license. They have no connection to Tesla, Inc. or Elon Musk.
While the Pi phone remains a rumor, SpaceX and Tesla are pushing hard in other areas:
- Starlink is expanding global coverage and working on direct-to-device connections for existing phones.
- Tesla is focused on EV production, battery storage, and energy solutions, not consumer smartphones.
The Tesla Pi phone does not exist. There has been no announcement, no prototype, and no development confirmation from Tesla or Elon Musk.
