In his lawsuit, Justin Baldoni claimed that Lively and Reynolds used Swift as a "megacelebrity friend" to coerce him into accepting Lively's script rewrites, drawing Swift into the controversy.

In a meeting with Swift and Reynolds, he said, Lively called Swift one of her "dragons." The singer praised Lively's edits, which Baldoni interpreted as an indication that he was supposed to alter the screenplay.

In a court filing, Bryan Freedman, Baldoni's lead lawyer, said that Swift had been subpoenaed in the case and that he was seeking proof that Lively's lawyer had threatened to release texts between the two friends if Swift didn't post a social media statement expressing support for Lively.
