Taylor Swift Outperforms The Beatles On The UK Albums Chart

Taylor Swift has shattered The Beatles' dreams of fixing a historic glitch in their chart record. Last week, the Beatles reissued their Red and Blue greatest hits albums, anticipating that one of them would top the UK album chart.

Swift, on the other hand, with her pop epic 1989 (Taylor's Version) is claiming the top spot for a third week.

When the Red and Blue albums were first released in 1973, the Beatles were in the same situation. Back then, David Bowie's Aladdin Sane kept them from reaching number one.


The two records end up in the identical chart places this week that they did 50 years ago.
The Red Album (officially titled The Beatles 1962-1966) is at number three, and the Blue Album (officially titled The Beatles 1967-1970) is at number two.

However, The Beatles continue to hold the record for the most UK number one albums of all time, with 15. Rolling Stone referred to the original Red and Blue compilations as "eight of the most-perfect album sides ever devised".

The re-released versions include all-new mixes of their biggest songs, as well as the "new" single Now And Then, which is based on a John Lennon demo from the 1970s. Twenty new songs have been added to the CDs, including Twist And Shout, Taxman, Dear Prudence, and Blackbird.

However, the band was unable to depose Taylor Swift, whose re-recorded version of 1989 has quickly become one of the year's best-selling albums.

Chase & Status create a stir with 2 RUFF, Vol. 1 (EMI), fresh at No. 4, marking the drum 'n' bass duo's fifth U.K. top 10 appearance, farther down the albums count.

Quarter Life Crisis (Polydor), the debut studio album from South African-born, London-based musician Baby Queen, rounds out the top five. It's at No. 5 for the first time.

Noah Kahan's Stick Season completes a four-month run at the top of the singles chart.

The contemplative song first gained popularity on TikTok throughout the summer, but it didn't take off until pop diva Olivia Rodrigo sang it in BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge, external last month.

Soon later, the song debuted at 69 on the charts and is now at number five this week.

Meanwhile, Christmas tunes are making their usual ascent up the countdown.

Wham's Last Christmas climbs 11 spots to number 26, while Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas Is You climbs 12 spots to number 28 after debuting in the Top 40 last week.
