Tallulah Willis shares heartbreaking account of father Bruce Willis' daily battle with Dementia
Bruce Willis’ daughter shared an emotional update of her father and the Die Hard star Bruce Willis struggling everyday with frontotemporal dementia.

Tallulah provides an intimate glimpse into the daily struggles faced by the Die Hard star as he grapples with the condition. She reveals that the 68-year-old spends most of his days at home, seeking solace in music and engaging with his cherished trinkets. "He likes things that feel heavy in the hand, that he can spin around in his fingers," shared Tallulah.
While Bruce Willis still recognizes his daughter, Tallulah admits to preparing herself for the day when that familiarity may fade. "He still knows who I am and lights up when I enter the room," she acknowledged. "I keep flipping between the present and the past when I talk about Bruce: he is, he was, he is, he was. That’s because I have hopes for my father that I’m so reluctant to let go of."
As his cognitive abilities continue to decline, Tallulah has taken it upon herself to capture numerous photographs and save her father's voicemails as precious reminders for the future. These tangible keepsakes will serve as lasting connections when her father's presence may no longer be there to evoke those memories.
Initially, the Willis family shared the news of Bruce's diagnosis of aphasia, a condition characterized by a brain-mediated inability to speak or understand speech, in early 2022. However, subsequent tests confirmed that this was, in fact, a symptom of frontotemporal dementia, a severe and progressive neurological disorder that profoundly affects cognition and behavior.
Tallulah admitted that the diagnosis came as a shock to her and her family. Nevertheless, she expressed that she had sensed something amiss with her father long before the medical reports confirmed their fears. "I’ve known that something was wrong for a long time," she revealed. "It started out with a kind of vague unresponsiveness, which the family chalked up to Hollywood hearing loss. Later that unresponsiveness broadened, and I sometimes took it personally."
Within her heartfelt letter, Tallulah also bares her own personal struggles, sharing that while her father was quietly battling his condition, she was dealing with body dysmorphia and anorexia as part of Borderline Personality Disorder. She candidly acknowledges that she had initially met her father's decline with avoidance and denial due to her own health challenges.
Despite her own difficulties, Tallulah is now dedicated to treasuring the time she has with her father, fully aware that challenges lie ahead. "This is the beginning of grief," she solemnly concludes.
