Tallahassee residents could witness rare Sunday snow as cold front moves through the region
Tallahassee people may see a rare winter event this Sunday morning as a cold front sweeps through the area. Rain is anticipated to blend with or briefly transform into light snow, providing a short lived glimpse of white in Florida’s capital.

Cold Front Brings Snow Chances

As per the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a strong cold front navigating through late Saturday night will result in colder air, enabling rain to blend with or transition to light snow Sunday morning. The greatest likelihood of snow will be north of Tallahassee, but regions of the city might still witness flakes in the early hours. Accumulation is anticipated to be light, typically a trace to 1 inch with most snow settling on grassy or elevated regions. Warm ground temperatures should limit buildup on roadways, making travel relatively safe. Significant roads like U.S. 27, U.S. 90, and Capital Circle are anticipated to remain largely wet rather than snow-covered.

Timing and Travel Considerations

Snow chances peak around daybreak Sunday and should taper off rapidly as skies clear. Temperatures are predicted to elevate into the mid- to upper-40s by afternoon, aiding melt any brief accumulation. While widespread road concerns are not expected, drivers are recommended to remain cautious, particularly on bridges and less-traveled routes where slick spots could briefly be seen. No major travel interruptions are expected, but updates may follow if conditions evolved.

Increasing Odds of Snow

Chances of snow in Florida are rising for Sunday, January 18. While far from the record-breaking snowfall of 2025, which resulted in the region’s huge accumulations in decades, it could still offer a rare winter treat for Florida and its capital city. "Forecast probabilities for snow have increased with this morning update compared to 24 hours ago," The National Weather Service in Tallahassee cited in its morning update. "This is largely due to colder air moving in slightly faster than was forecast at this time yesterday. Accordingly, this is also why the probabilities for seeing snow have increased further west across the Florida Panhandle and into southeast Alabama."
