TikTok prank turns costly as Swedish mom fined for cracking egg on daughter’s head
A little girl in Sweden was excited to bake with her mom until a viral TikTok prank turned her joy into humiliation.

A 24-year-old mother from Helsingborg, Sweden, has been convicted of harassment and fined approximately $2,070 after participating in a viral TikTok prank that involved cracking a raw egg on her young daughter's forehead.

The incident occurred in 2023 when the mother told her daughter they would bake an apple cake together. During the filming, she unexpectedly cracked an egg on the child's forehead, causing yolk to drip down her face.

The video, which captured the child's surprise and discomfort, amassed around 100,000 views on TikTok.

The prank, part of a broader trend where parents feigned cracking eggs into bowls but instead broke them on their children's heads, was seen by many as harmless fun.

However, this particular video drew criticism for its perceived cruelty. One viewer reported it to the authorities, prompting an investigation.

Prosecutor Cecilia Andersson expressed strong disapproval of the act, stating, "When I saw the video, I thought: you simply don’t do that to a child. To record and humiliate the child and then broadcast it to thousands of viewers. I find that incredibly degrading, and that’s my personal opinion."

She further emphasized the betrayal felt by the child, noting, "It’s a little girl who thinks she’s going to bake an apple cake with her mom and is happy and excited about it, and then all of a sudden, she gets an egg cracked in her forehead. This is a reckless act."

The mother defended her actions in court, claiming she was merely participating in a widespread trend and did not intend harm. "Everyone was doing it," she argued. Despite her defense, the Helsingborg District Court found her guilty of harassment and ordered her to pay SEK 20,000 (approximately $2,070) in damages to her daughter.

Critics argue that such actions can have lasting psychological effects on children and question the morality of using them for online entertainment.
