Supreme Court wants positive action from Harvard University, University of North Carolina over alleged discrimination
Harvard University and the University of North Carolina have been hauled up in court to answer about discrimination in their respective universities. The court has sought positive action from both universities on the issue of race during admissions.

The Universities have a method whereby they ensure that there is no discrimination. Still, some students are helped financially through grants if they come from poorer backgrounds.
Both Universities have the capacity for 1600 to 1700 students as freshmen at the time of admission. Both received more than 50,000 applications. Of that, more than 1800 students have a 100 per cent score on their SAT or GRE.
So both offer a mix of students during admissions. In North Carolina, if you are of Hispanic or Black origin, you would have more than a 90 per cent chance to get admitted over a White fresher who would have around a 10 per cent chance to make it. Similarly, at Harvard, the favourability tilt is towards Asian Americans. Due to the requirement of mixed races preferred by student bodies, Harvard takes in around 60% Asians.
The issue is that the Supreme Court is at loggerheads about the judgment that will be passed. It doesn’t matter; the system is good enough to sustain as it has been for many years.
