October 2025 SSI payment surprise: why beneficiaries get two deposits this month and who may receive a third check
Millions of Americans who depend on Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will notice a rare change in October 2025. Instead of just one deposit, many will see two SSI payments — one on October 1 and another on October 31. Some beneficiaries who also...

SSI payments are usually made on the first of every month. However, in October, the first falls on a Wednesday (October 1), so the October SSI payment will arrive on that day as expected.
The next month’s payment, which normally would be on November 1, 2025, falls on a Saturday. SSA policy states that if a payment date falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment is made on the previous business day.
Therefore, the November SSI payment will be paid early, on October 31, 2025 (Friday). This leads to two SSI payments hitting accounts in October.
That means SSI recipients will get:
- Wednesday, October 1, 2025 – October’s SSI payment
- Friday, October 31, 2025 – November’s SSI payment (paid early)
Social Security retirement benefits schedule in October 2025

- Wednesday, October 8, 2025 – For birthdays between the 1st and 10th
- Wednesday, October 15, 2025 – For birthdays between the 11th and 20th

Why is SSA paying SSI twice in October?
The SSA has a simple rule: when the first of the month falls on a weekend or federal holiday, SSI payments are sent on the previous business day.Since November 1 falls on a Saturday in 2025, November’s SSI check is moved up to October 31. This is why SSI recipients get two payments in October but none in November.
What to do if your SSI or Social Security payment is late
Most payments are made electronically and arrive on schedule. But if your expected deposit date passes and the money does not show up, the SSA advises waiting three mailing days before taking action.- Call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY: 1-800-325-0778)
- Reach them Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time
Who qualifies for SSI benefits?
The SSI program is designed to help people with limited income and resources. To qualify, you must meet one of the following criteria:- Be 65 years or older
- Be blind (partially or totally)
- Have a disability that meets SSA’s strict definition
October 2025 is a special case for SSI beneficiaries. Payments will arrive on October 1 and again on October 31. The second deposit is actually November’s benefit paid early because November 1 falls on a Saturday.
Meanwhile, Social Security retirement recipients will see their checks according to the regular October schedule based on their birthdates.
So, while October may bring two SSI deposits, November will bring none — keeping the year’s payment count unchanged.
